The Wilson 801245 Amplifier Fails

Wonder why there have been few posts lately? All things mechanical and electronic can fail. I turned on the Wilson 801245 bidirectional dual band cellular amplifier the other day.  Instead of 3 steady green lights, all 3 lights were flashing on and off and I was getting no signal boost.

The only thing to do was call Wilson Tech Support in St. George, UT USA. The 801245 amp was a few months past the 12 month warranty period so I was interested as to how they would handle the failure. Glenn answered the phone on the second ring and I described my problem. A few minutes later I had an RMA number for returning the unit. Glenn said once they receive my broken amp, they will ship me a new 801245 amp.

Wilson Electronics has a stellar reputation for product quality and customer service which I think is well deserved. I am dealing with a product made in the USA and customer service is not outsourced to a facility where English is not the first language. The only minor problem is they require UPS or FedEx shipping both ways. I will have to make a trip to Bryan to drop the amp off at a UPS Store or Kinko’s for shipping and then Wilson will have to ship it to the stick house in Dallas. A minor inconvenience at best. Now, all I have to do is find the time to get down to Bryan. In the meantime, I am dealing with a very marginal cellular signal. A signal strength of -95dbm to -105dbm makes for a lousy internet connection.

Still here. Sometimes I wish I was close to a big Metro with a strong, unboosted 3G connection. NOT! 🙂

Well good for you, my third 801245 fried after 12 months and three weeks, the first died after 7 months, which they did replace, just wanted to find out if it could be repaired, did NOT get warm and fuzzy from tech, said not a lot they could do,just go buy a replacement. I keep a back-up amp for when my 4th amp fails,as it will.
