If It Walks Like A Duck, It's a Real Train Wreck

Yeah, I know.  Bad business to mix metaphors.  Just confuses the situation and highlights my ignorance.  Maybe it is a comment on world affairs;  and maybe I am not that bright to begin with.

They killed Osama Bin Laden.  Ten years it took ’em to get the job done.  George W said we would, standing on that pile of rubble at Ground Zero with that fireman guy.  Betcha he never dreamed it would take a decade.  The crowds fanned out last night to celebrate – in front of the White House and at Ground Zero and down Main Street, USA.  It was spontaneous and my heart leapt as well when I heard the news.  That was one sonofabitch that needed killin’ deader than a hammer.   The crowds were jubilant, chanting “USA! USA!” over and over.    I got a mind flash of the Life magazine pictures of VE Day and VJ Day back in 1945.   That WAS the finite end of something,  you can see the way this country was before and the way it was after those events back when.  It brought a huge change to the country.  9/11 was like that; there was America before and then the  Changed Forever America we woke to on 9/12/2001.

I been pondering it all morning and I just can’t see that the death of OBL is going to change a whole lot.  I wish I could see it.   I swear I wish I could.  States are broke and the Fed is running the money presses around the clock.  Gas is fixin’ to be $4 a gallon and Exxon is reporting staggering first quarter profits.  The War in Iraq has been officially over since last summer and this April was the deadliest month over there since 2009.   Close to 400 Americans were killed in the deadliest outbreak of storms we have ever seen last week and the networks were covering a Royal Wedding ’round the clock.  A kiss on a balcony pushes the stories of devastated families in Alabama to the back pages of the newspaper. Bin Laden being dead is not going to cure  the rot we got living down deep and close to the bone

Lordy,  I just don’t know.  I do know you can’t suck the oil out of the Middle East through the barrel of a gun.  I do know that Big Business should not control our elected officials.  I do know I let my kids down because I did not prepare them for the World My Generation gave them.

“I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy.”

  • I appreciate your addressing the situation. I have no answers. I’m up a creek without a spare these days when it comes to answers about world politics. (following your mixer idea today) I have to confess I hardly follow the news anymore because it just depresses me and I’m powerless. I do pray about things. I find that more beneficial, to me, anyway.
