Like a Rooster Wearing Socks

I got a sack full of pet peeves.   Most of ’em I deal with privately but peeves they still be.  One of the peeves in my sack is the posting of videos and such on blogs….  I rarely do it.  Just because I like something doesn’t particularly mean you should find it appealing as well.   Maybe it is the concept of self-important vanity that makes us expect such as that.  So just humor me occasionally if that peeve is set aside and I sometimes post a video.  Assuredly, I think it is worth a look or I wouldn’t post it on my blog  — just sayin’.

Long time readers know full well that I have a passionate affinity for West Texas.   My whole life has been marked by a  restlessness that has only been assuaged since we discovered The Desplobado.   I figure it is about  time — I have been on the move since I was 17; coming up on 40 years by damn.   I was looking at some recent photos of my 37th high school reunion  and my initial gut reaction was ‘ Christ, look at all those old people!’  heh!  I are one I reckon– even if I am not too keen about it.   Age gives you the critical license to be decidedly off-center and mildly eccentric;  if you wish.  People look at me regularly like  they would a rooster wearing socks.   I could give a good damn.  Everybody oughta try it.

Wyman Meinzer

Wyman Meinzer is the only official State Photographer of Texas. He was raised on League Ranch, a 27,000-acre ranch in the rolling plains of Texas. Since then, he has traveled across the state many times to capture the first and last rays of sunlight as they kiss the Texas landscapes.

Meinzer has a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Management and was voted Outstanding Alumnus in 1987 by the department of Range and Wildlife Management at Texas Tech University. He also received the Distinguished Alumnus award in 1995 from the School of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. In 2009 he received the Distinguished Alumnus award from Texas Tech University in recognition of outstanding achievement and dedicated service.

He started his career as a professional predator hunter. He transitioned into a research associate for the university and now teaches a senior-level course in Special Problems Photography at Texas Tech University in addition to his ongoing book projects and freelance magazine assignments.

So give the video a shot. Sometimes a life is enriched by the smallest of expectations. Make sure and turn your speakers on…. The music is by Doug Smith – A West Texas pianist and composer.

End Note:  None of Us Are Free by Solomon Burke from the Don’t Give Up On Me.  Solomon Burke is dead.  His music lives on.   Put everything else aside for 5 minutes, close your eyes and dig on some Solomon Burke.

  • Dude, if I’m reading what you’re writing, I think it’s patently obvious I’m interested, and that would include videos. Yeesh. If you don’t want to post a video, post a link.

How else are shut-ins like me supposed to find new stuff?

“Christ, look at all those old people!”

    I resemble that remark.
