Scrounging and Recycling

What do you do when it rains 6 inches and your whole world centers around an aging diesel pusher motor home with a scant 200 square feet of living space? If you were me, you would pull on the rubber boots and go “piddle around” the base camp.

The past few days has been productive even though I have not even been in the cab of a dozer since last week. I engineered the Deluxe Mud Porch and Hard Cased Stinky Slinky for the property owner.  I have been working mounting the Yagi directional antenna for the Ultimate Internet Access Project and then I ran out of things to do.  There is a huge deer population here in the Piney Woods

of Deep East Texas.  If you have a huge deer population it just stands to reason there are plenty of those good ole boys looking to harvest the above mentioned deer.  Let me tell ya, each and every one of those good ole boys think they can build the best deer stand in the county!   There are a half dozen or more deer stands on this property in various stages of disrepair.  The property owner has already said he wanted them “cleaned up”  so I took the Kawasaki Mule out for a look see.

I was hoping to get enough salvage lumber to construct a mud porch for my brother. He is going to be moving his Heartland Fiver here in the next week or so.

The scrounger's haul

The scrounger's haul

What can I say? It was a productive scrounging trip. Quite a few pressure treated 2x4s and even some PT decking. Constructing a small 2’6″x6′ mud porch was an easy task and I even had enough scrounged wood leftover to build a walkway. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon!
