The Old Girl - Abandoned

The Old Girl – Abandoned

Extensive damage to the roof of the RV. Holes punched are obvious. The white marks are 'bruises'. The hail did not penetrate the roof membrane but the plywood sheathing below is crushed.

You know,  it hasn’t been an easy 90 days.   Miss K and I had that personal upheaval followed by the Big Hail event and then we had to find a new place to live.

We weathered the naysayers and public slander and came out on the other side little the worse for wear.  I was picking up the final items out of the Old Girl the other day and I sat down at the dinette where I had spent countless hours and it was sad.   It reminded me, for some reason, of putting your favorite dog down.   The Old Girl was one tough old bird but the Big Hail got the best of her.  She continued to shelter us after the event that would have reduced lesser RVs to a shredded heap of junk.  Gotta give her that.

One thing is for certain, without the help of the MyOldRV family and all of our friends over at the Gate Guard Forum we would still be struggling to get a roof over our heads.  That is a stone cold fact.  Y’all made it happen for us with your unselfish donations that came from the heart.  It truly humbles me to think about the outpouring of generosity.

Anyway, you all know that according to the naysayers, I am just a silly old drunkard that scams blue haired retirees and Miss K is a money grubbin’ harlot.   You know that because the self-appointed Scam Police like Kevin Johnson and Trip Ruoff spread it all over the internet.  Of course, as you also know, everything on the internet is true.  As we were cleaning out the belly of the Old Girl we amassed a pile o’ stuff that has no place or no use in the Princess Palace.  This pile o’ stuff could have been sold on eBay or Craigs List for a good stack of coins but I think it would be better served just to give it away.  This is the deal:

  • All of the stuff is WELL USED but still serviceable.
  • If you have a need for the item and can use it, speak up.  If you want it just because free is good, step back and let somebody else that really needs the item have it.
  • It came from a smoking environment and may need cleaning or have odors present associated with the smoking.
  • I will mail some of the items on my dime if it is feasible.  Those items will be noted in the description.  All other items need to be picked up face to face.  We are currently about 1 mile north of Los Angeles,TX off FM 469 — at least for a few more days.
  • One item per person please.
  • PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS>>>>  The first email I get at andy(at)myoldrv, com AFTER 2am central time on SATURDAY JUNE 1st gets that item.  This will give every one  time to read this blog post and get there name in the hat if they choose.

Here is the list:

  1. One case of Delo 15W40 oil in quarts.  Pickup only
  2. Deluxe Extend A Stay ( I think I have the hose to hook up a grill as well)
  3. Another Deluxe Extend A Stay
  4. Camco Genturi complete with storage bag.  I do not have the clips to attach it to the RV.  Pickup only
  5. 2 small stainless steel 12v dash fans.  Different brands but they look the same.
  6. Shakespeare stainless steel ratcheting antenna mount.  Fits on a ladder rack or cargo rail.  Used to mount Wilson external antenna.
  7. Small GE color TV.  Probably 10 years old .  It was on the wall in the bedroom of the Old Girl.  I guess back then it would have been called a flat screen.  Today, not so much.  It is just a skinny TV.  20″ diagonal measure screen and I think I have the remote. Comes with the wall mount. Pickup only
  8. RV white  windshield  screen.  Premium model with flat metal bars and rubber straps on each end.  One person can easily deploy it. Soiled from 5 years of near continuous use but should clean up. Will it fit your windshield?  Don’t ask me!!   LOL   Pickup only
  9. Old style Cummins 5.9l engine manual
  10. Schematics for 1993 National Dolphin 32d and 34d

There ya have it. 5 years of continuous boondocking reduced to 10 items and a demolished motor home.

Chapter closed. Pay It Forward.

Move along, move along—nothing to see here.  🙂

End Note:  Back to the Wall by Steve Earle from the Copperhead Road cd. 1988-25 years ago.  Seems like just last week. At any rate, kickin’ ass is kickin’ ass.  Then or now……………

    “blue haired retirees”

Male pattern baldness may prevent me from ever achieving this status.

I suppose we could just grab a marker and color our scalps blue and then blend right in with the other geezers.

I’m with Mike, this is a very fitting way to disperse some of the items that are no longer any use to you but someone else will be more than happy to have.

Something that caught my eye was one of the self appointed “scam police” was/is name Trip Ruoff. Now I enjoy a good play on words now and again and I immediately broke the name down and I ended up with the following: T rip R u off – T ripr u off – To rip you off. A fitting name for a troll methinks.

I have never heard of those other people, nor do they show up on google. I have heard of you. Guess I wouldn’t be too worried ’bout it.
