Memorial Day 2016

I saw this on TV a few minutes ago “Happy Memorial Day!” WTF?  Have we completely lost it? I am pissed. I am incensed. I am out of the frame.

Michael Avery Pursel's mother grieves at his grave. He died in Iraq in 2007.

Michael Avery Pursel’s mother grieves at his grave. He died in Iraq in 2007.

You remember our fallen heroes today if you are a Patriot.  If not, you go to a barbecue or the beach or the Mall because you got the day off and it is cool. It is not a “happy day”.  Fuck that noise!  How many of you got a flag flying or even happened to notice our brightest and best like Charles Keating IV was killed by those ISIS bastards just this month?   Obama hisself said “They’re not going to be leading the fight on the ground, but they will be essential in providing the training and assisting local forces that continue to drive [ISIS] back,” he said” God, I flashback to Viet Nam and “Advisors” when I hear political doublespeak like that.  When, oh when, will we learn we cannot suck the oil out of the Mideast through the barrel of a gun?

So what you need to do is read my post from way back in 2011 and understand implicitly that when we deploy the US Military to hot spots around the world it is at the behest of old MFers who got no skin in the game.  We send our children, the kid down the street, the captain of the football team, the gawky teenager who bagged your groceries last week,  to fight the wars of Old Men.  What could possibly be righteous about that? The loss is real. It is palpable for those of us in  in Flyover America.  It does not register in Washington. Does anyone besides me see the disconnect?

So read my blog from 2011 and understand the members of our Military are our very own sons and daughters and  their willingness to offer the supreme sacrifice is NOT anything a Washington Politico should influence or direct.  Want an example of the wanton disregard of human life vs. political aspirations? Hillary and Benghazi.  “What difference does it make?” says Hillary. Give me five minutes one on one with her and I will certainly school her up on the value of a human life.  That criminal bitch needs to be indicted on Federal felony charges.  The fact that she hasn’t been indicted on Benghazi and her ‘email inconvenience’ just accentuates the rotten, putrid system we condone and accept.  What have we become?

“A country deserves what it tolerates. “

  • People say things like this because they, and the country in general, are so far removed from military service that it no longer registers without taking time to think about it.

“When, oh when, will we learn we cannot suck the oil out of the Mideast through the barrel of a gun?”

Good question. That’s the question I had way back before the US invasion and military occupation of Iraq, which I opposed at the time. I still have my Vietnam era draft card (1H) as a reminder of another example of folly.

Wishing someone “Happy Memorial Day” is like wishing them “Happy Good Friday.” It is a time of meditation, not joy, if you observe them at all.

    Morn’n Andy,

    Seen this sign yesterday:

“They say America is at war.
    America is not at war.
The American military is at war.
    America is at the mall.”

My father is buried at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC, and his headstone reads:

    WWII
    Korea
    Vietnam

He lied about his age and joined the service when he was 16 years old right at the end of WWII and made a career out of it. He retired in 1968 and lived 21 more years, working at a civilian job.

It hurts to look around and see people so oblivious to what is going on in the world, who are just going about their daily life in their own small world. I get involved in my stuff, too, but always, always, I am aware of the sacrifices of the brave men and women in the US military.

I often think of others who put their lives on the line such as firefighters, police, and first responders.

    Thanks Andy
It exceeds my ability of understanding, when this obviously lying, felonious GAS BAG Hillary remains outside of the jail cell or at very least bogged down in legal trouble for years. Then the PC BS that is growing like Cancer, and the arrogant liberals continue piling on the disrespect of this Country and disregarding common sense at all cost.
My two Navy son-n-laws could not be better examples of pride for Flag and all things Military. Just yesterday on the U.S.S. Missouri here in Pearl Harbor, my CMC son n law was host to 4 of 5 remaining Arizona survivors, talking about humbling experience. Hope upon Hope that this country is finally headed toward a RESPECFULL period of time w/ our new President who is outward in his respect and Support of this great land and it’s Military.

    Yes Andy,
Seems that basic love of country, or at very least some level of appreciation for the Freedoms we enjoy, would come into play especially during Memorial Day observances. I’m old enough to remember that reverence was just something you did w/o question. 5 of my 6 Brother-n-laws served in the Military, as did my Dad, and now my two Son-n-Laws with the Navy, one now a CMC on a newer Destroyer w/ 19 years of distinguished service and the other of 6yeas and plans of advancing. CMC son n law just hosted a lunch yesterday w/ 4 of the remaining 5 Arizona survivors here at Pearl harbor and a 93yr old Medal of Honor Recipient who helped save 2 of the 5 from dying that day. Visiting the Punch Bowl here in Hawaii also reminds any who visit of that sacrifice and one should reflect on the impact.
I’ve visited Arlington Cemetery on two occasions and it would only be the heartless few who are unmoved or remain unmoved to not remember the dead as contributors to the freedom we enjoy. Yes the PC movement is misplaced effort to sanitize and ‘correct’ the sins of our heritage
