Policy - revisited

ed. note: This originally was posted sometime late spring of 2012. I can’t say my viewpoints have softened one iota. If anything, the curmudgeon factor has increased. If nothing else, some of my ideals have been mightily compromised by factors and agencies I do not control.

Shut the front door!!   Let’s get after it………..

This literary masterpiece was submitted as a blog comment a few days back and I immediately placed it in the ever growing digital file entitled ‘You can’t fix sTuPID.’

Time to update and call to mind what we are about, what you might run across here and whether or not it has any redeeming qualities or monetary value…. Being in the Public Eye with a blog has it drawbacks especially when you seem to attract shit house crazy rats like F. Scott Worldwide quoted above.

Policy

I offer opinions as-is, where is. I rarely cite support for my opinions so they are, in that sense, unwarranted. If I do cite support it may be from some itinerant author who has no more sense of propriety or accuracy than do I. I come by them largely by having lived and watched and listened rather than by argument or persuasion. My opinions are, therefore, not particularly accessible by debate or vulnerable to claims of illegitimacy. I will entertain opposing opinion but I feel no inclination, much less obligation, to discuss or defend my own. Whatever usefulness or amusement the reader may find in them is their own business.*

I attempt to refrain from publishing any content which is hurtful or rude. I will almost guarantee content will be published that may be NSFW, profane, direct and/or unsuitable for small children or inside pets. Content may cause the good Baptists to gnash their teeth and relatives to disavow any knowledge of my existence.

In closing, take these words to heart as have I for the past decade:

My Symphony

To live content with small means,
To seek elegance rather than luxury,
and refinement rather than fashion.

To be worthy not respectable,
And wealthy, not rich,

To study hard, think quietly,
Talk gently, act frankly,
to listen to stars, birds, babes,
and sages with open heart,
to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely,
await occasions, hurry never.

In a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious,
grow up through the common.

This is to be my symphony.

—- William Ellery Channing (1810-1884)

* Tip of the hat to Ol’ Remus over at the Woodpile Report.  Would that my thoughts fell to paper as masterfully as his.

What a great post! It is SO great. Like you I have some experience in life – more than you in years anyway. But it is so true that our comments are simply our views and while they are honestly and thought to be correct, they might be totally wrong. I don’t offer as many opinions as you but I do have them. I don’t expect a shit-hitting-fan episode as you seem to but who knows. I respect and carefully consider your suggestions regarding life in general. I suspect we agree in many areas. Thanks for sharing your life & ideas via your blog.
