Self Sufficiency

Headgear – M14/M1A for those bowling-ly inquisitive

For a half done February, it is nice here in South Texas.  The mesquites and assorted puckerbrush flora are showing tinges of green.  The routine of late is a morning and evening walk followed by an hour or better of sittin’ out.  Maybe coffee, maybe not.   Vela Von chases the rubber ball incessantly.  Dogs don’t ask for much.

The kitchen is in large disarray from a rush batch of Swamp Chili before we went outside.  Cold front and rain on tap for tomorrow so it seemed like the thing to do.

What's Old Is New Again

Last weekend, April 18th and 19th, was spent down south of Bryan/ College Station at a shooting range.  I participated in a Project Appleseed event.

Project Appleseed is an apolitical rifle marksmanship training program that focuses on teaching traditional rifle marksmanship from standing, sitting/kneeling, and prone positions over a two day weekend shooting clinic for what is termed an “Appleseed”. It is one of the major activities of The Revolutionary War Veterans Association (RWVA), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that teaches and promotes traditional rifle marksmanship, while also teaching American heritage and history with the intent of encouraging people

If you haven’t had a day off in 6 months,  what do you do when you finally get some relief?  Most folks do the 9-5 Monday till Friday and look forward to an occasional extra day off when there is a holiday.  It don’t work that way in the Oil Patch.  We have been on 24/7 since the Trek East back around Thanksgiving; Christmas Day, MLK Day, Easter Sunday  — all the same same from where we were sittin’ and it takes its’ toll.
